Now these are the chiefs of the province that dwelt in Jerusalem: but in the cities of Judah dwelt every one in his possession in their cities, {\i to wit}, Israel, the priests, and the Levites, and the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon's servants.


And there he maketh the hungry to dwell,\par\tab That they may prepare a city of habitation,


They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way;\par\tab They found no city of habitation.


To him that led his people through the wilderness;\par\tab For his lovingkindness {\i endureth} for ever:


Thou leddest thy people like a flock,\par\tab By the hand of Moses and Aaron.\par


But he led forth his own people like sheep,\par\tab And guided them in the wilderness like a flock.


and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.


And my people shall abide in a peaceable habitation, and in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.


Thus saith Jehovah, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: I am Jehovah thy God, who teacheth thee to profit, who leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.


And Judah and all the cities thereof shall dwell therein together, the husbandmen, and they that go about with flocks.


They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.\par


Thus saith Jehovah, Stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way; and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls: but they said, We will not walk {\i therein}.


Whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, abiding thereon, the children of Israel remained encamped, and journeyed not; but when it was taken up, they journeyed.


But now they desire a better {\i country}, that is, a heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; for he hath prepared for them a city.\par


but ye are come unto mount Zion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable hosts of angels,


having forsaken the right way, they went astray, having followed the way of Balaam the {\i son} of Beor, who loved the hire of wrong-doing;


For it were better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered unto them.
