Why do the nations rage,\par\tab And the peoples meditate a vain thing?


Mine enemies speak evil against me, {\i saying},\par\tab When will he die, and his name perish?


Because of the voice of the enemy,\par\tab Because of the oppression of the wicked;\par\tab For they cast iniquity upon me,\par\tab And in anger they persecute me.


Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness:\par\tab And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none;\par\tab And for comforters, but I found none.


I have considered the days of old,\par\tab The years of ancient times.


Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah,\par\tab Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.\par


And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen; and the Lord Jehovah will slay thee; and he will call his servants by another name:


and of them shall be taken up a curse by all the captives of Judah that are in Babylon, saying, Jehovah make thee like Zedekiah and like Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire;


But they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.


And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.


Now when they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.


For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, {\b The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me.}
