Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob; And hearken unto Israel your father.


Come, ye children, hearken unto me:\par\tab I will teach you the fear of Jehovah.


To know wisdom and instruction;\par\tab To discern the words of understanding;


My son, hear the instruction of thy father,\par\tab And forsake not the law of thy mother:


A wise son {\i heareth} his father's instruction;\par\tab But a scoffer heareth not rebuke.


Hear counsel, and receive instruction,\par\tab That thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.


Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise,\par\tab And apply thy heart unto my knowledge.


My son, attend unto my wisdom;\par\tab Incline thine ear to my understanding:


Say unto wisdom, Thou art my sister;\par\tab And call understanding {\i thy} kinswoman:


And we have obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab, our father, in all that he charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, or our daughters;


Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away {\i from them}.
