Because of the oppression of the poor, because of the sighing of the needy,\par\tab Now will I arise, saith Jehovah;\par\tab I will set him in the safety he panteth for.


Blessed be Jehovah,\par\tab Who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.


Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge,\par\tab Who eat up my people {\i as} they eat bread,\par\tab And call not upon Jehovah?

Jehovah will enter into judgment with the elders of his people, and the princes thereof: It is ye that have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses:


what mean ye that ye crush my people, and grind the face of the poor? saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.


And the instruments of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the meek with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.


Behold, the princes of Israel, every one according to his power, have been in thee to shed blood.


Ye eat the fat, and ye clothe you with the wool, ye kill the fatlings; but ye feed not the sheep.


they that pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father go unto the {\i same} maiden, to profane my holy name:


Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, that oppress the poor, that crush the needy, that say unto their lords, Bring, and let us drink.


Hear this, O ye that would swallow up the needy, and cause the poor of the land to fail,


Thou didst pierce with his own staves the head of his warriors:\par\tab They came as a whirlwind to scatter me;\par\tab Their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.


Her princes in the midst of her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they leave nothing till the morrow.


But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye shut the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye enter not in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering in to enter.\par


And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as {\i the teeth} of lions.
