when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth.


And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of Jehovah came upon them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.


Wilt thou harass a driven leaf?\par\tab And wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?


There were they in great fear, where no fear was;\par\tab For God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee:\par\tab Thou hast put them to shame, because God hath rejected them.

And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt say, Because of the tidings, for it cometh; and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and it shall be done, saith the Lord Jehovah.\par


Israel hath cast off that which is good: the enemy shall pursue him.


And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be smitten before your enemies: they that hate you shall rule over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.


As long as it lieth desolate it shall have rest, even the rest which it had not in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.


And the Amorites, that dwelt in that hill-country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even unto Hormah.

And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them at the descent; and the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.


And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid.
