Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed: he gave them all into his hand.


Their priests fell by the sword;\par\tab And their widows made no lamentation.


And Moses besought Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, that thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?


O thou that art full of shoutings, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; thy slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle.


And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters; and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the distress, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their life, shall distress them.\par


And afterward, saith Jehovah, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, even such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.\par


the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?\par


I called for my lovers, {\i but} they deceived me:\par\tab My priests and mine elders gave up the ghost in the city,\par\tab While they sought them food to refresh their souls.\par


The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children;\par\tab They were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.\par


{\i It is} because of the sins of her prophets, {\i and} the iniquities of her priests,\par\tab That have shed the blood of the just in the midst of her.


The anger of Jehovah hath scattered them; he will no more regard them:\par\tab They respected not the persons of the priests, they favored not the elders.\par


Therefore the fathers shall eat the sons in the midst of thee, and the sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments on thee; and the whole remnant of thee will I scatter unto all the winds.


And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and smote in the city.


And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.


And I prayed unto Jehovah, and said, O Lord Jehovah, destroy not thy people and thine inheritance, that thou hast redeemed through thy greatness, that thou hast brought forth out of Egypt with a mighty hand.
