And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?


With aged men is wisdom,\par\tab And in length of days understanding.\par


Lo, mine eye hath seen all {\i this},\par\tab Mine ear hath heard and understood it.


With us are both the grayheaded and the very aged men,\par\tab Much elder than thy father.


(Which wise men have told\par\tab From their fathers, and have not hid it;


Knowest thou {\i not} this of old time,\par\tab Since man was placed upon earth,

The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day:\par\tab The father to the children shall make known thy truth.


Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or in the days of your fathers?


For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope.


Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.


Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations: Ask thy father, and he will show thee; Thine elders, and they will tell thee.


For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and from the one end of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?
