But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he will not return to me.


For we must needs die, and are as water spilt on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again; neither doth God take away life, but deviseth means, that he that is banished be not an outcast from him.


Before I go whence I shall not return,\par\tab {\i Even} to the land of darkness and of the shadow of death;


It is high as heaven; what canst thou do?\par\tab Deeper than Sheol; what canst thou know?


For when a few years are come,\par\tab I shall go the way whence I shall not return.\par


If I look for Sheol as my house;\par\tab If I have spread my couch in the darkness;


It shall go down to the bars of Sheol,\par\tab When once there is rest in the dust.\par


For now should I have lain down and been quiet;\par\tab I should have slept; then had I been at rest,


Terrors are turned upon me;\par\tab They chase mine honor as the wind;\par\tab And my welfare is passed away as a cloud.\par


Yea, he ladeth the thick cloud with moisture;\par\tab He spreadeth abroad the cloud of his lightning:


Oh spare me, that I may recover strength,\par\tab Before I go hence, and be no more.\par


{\i They are} dead, they shall not live; {\i they are} deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all remembrance of them to perish.


I said, I shall not see Jehovah, {\i even} Jehovah in the land of the living:\par\tab I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.
