The murderer riseth with the light;\par\tab He killeth the poor and needy;\par\tab And in the night he is as a thief.


Because I delivered the poor that cried,\par\tab The fatherless also, that had none to help him.


I was a father to the needy:\par\tab And the cause of him that I knew not I searched out.


Did not I weep for him that was in trouble?\par\tab Was not my soul grieved for the needy?


If I have withheld the poor from {\i their} desire,\par\tab Or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail,


If I have seen any perish for want of clothing,\par\tab Or that the needy had no covering;


Because he remembered not to show kindness,\par\tab But persecuted the poor and needy man,\par\tab And the broken in heart, to slay {\i them}.
