And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they wearied themselves to find the door.


Should thy boastings make men hold their peace?\par\tab And when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?


For thine iniquity teacheth thy mouth,\par\tab And thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.


They have sharpened their tongue like a serpent;\par\tab Adders' poison is under their lips. {\i Selah


Thou givest thy mouth to evil,\par\tab And thy tongue frameth deceit.


Thou lovest evil more than good,\par\tab And lying rather than to speak righteousness. {\i Selah


Who have whet their tongue like a sword,\par\tab And have aimed their arrows, even bitter words,


Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;\par\tab Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.


The thoughts of the righteous are just;\par\tab {\i But} the counsels of the wicked are deceit.


For they sleep not, except they do evil;\par\tab And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.


Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and sin as it were with a cart rope;


Thou wast wearied with the length of thy way; yet saidst thou not, It is in vain: thou didst find a quickening of thy strength; therefore thou wast not faint.\par


They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and ye shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Jehovah.\par


For even thy brethren, and the house of thy father, even they have dealt treacherously with thee; even they have cried aloud after thee: believe them not, though they speak fair words unto thee.\par


Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.


For my people are foolish, they know me not; they are sottish children, and they have no understanding; they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.\par


Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.\par


and thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary.\par\par\tab Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.\par


And thou shalt say unto them, This is the nation that hath not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah their God, nor received instruction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.\par


And they bend their tongue, {\i as it were} their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.


Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth wait for him.


She hath wearied {\i herself} with toil; yet her great rust goeth not forth out of her; her rust {\i goeth not forth} by fire.


For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.


O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.


Behold, is it not of Jehovah of hosts that the peoples labor for the fire, and the nations weary themselves for vanity?


Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, profaning the covenant of our fathers?


Wherefore, putting away falsehood, {\b speak ye truth each one with his neighbor}: for we are members one of another.


through the hypocrisy of men that speak lies, branded in their own conscience as with a hot iron;


And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, that knew not Jehovah, nor yet the work which he had wrought for Israel.
