While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.


And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the sojourners of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As Jehovah, the God of Israel, liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.


And they waited for me as for the rain;\par\tab And they opened their mouth wide {\i as} for the latter rain.


Who can number the clouds by wisdom?\par\tab Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,


Who giveth rain upon the earth,\par\tab And sendeth waters upon the fields;


Who covereth the heavens with clouds,\par\tab Who prepareth rain for the earth,\par\tab Who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.


Thou visitest the earth, and waterest it,\par\tab Thou greatly enrichest it;\par\tab The river of God is full of water:\par\tab Thou providest them grain, when thou hast so prepared the earth.


And there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.\par


When he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries.


Are there any among the vanities of the nations that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O Jehovah our God? therefore we will wait for thee; for thou hast made all these things.\par


Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and a bitter, that thou hast forsaken Jehovah thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts.\par


Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; yet thou hast a harlot's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.


Fear ye not me? saith Jehovah: will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand for the bound of the sea, by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it? and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it.


They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces thitherward, {\i saying}, Come ye, and join yourselves to Jehovah in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.\par


afterward shall the children of Israel return, and seek Jehovah their God, and David their king, and shall come with fear unto Jehovah and to his goodness in the latter days.\par


Come, and let us return unto Jehovah; for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up.


Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in Jehovah your God; for he giveth you the former rain in just measure, and he causeth to come down for you the rain, the former rain and the latter rain, in the first {\i month}.


And I also have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.


Ask ye of Jehovah rain in the time of the latter rain, {\i even of} Jehovah that maketh lightnings; and he will give them showers of rain, to every one grass in the field.


that ye may be sons of your Father who is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sendeth rain on the just and the unjust.


And yet he left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling your hearts with food and gladness.


Jehovah will open unto thee his good treasure the heavens, to give the rain of thy land in its season, and to bless all the work of thy hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.


Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient over it, until it receive the early and latter rain.


These have the power to shut the heaven, that it rain not during the days of their prophecy: and they have power over the waters to turn them into blood, and to smite the earth with every plague, as often as they shall desire.
