A fruitful land into a salt desert,\par\tab For the wickedness of them that dwell therein.


Thou, even thou, art to be feared;\par\tab And who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?


They have sown wheat, and have reaped thorns; they have put themselves to pain, and profit nothing: and ye shall be ashamed of your fruits, because of the fierce anger of Jehovah.\par


How long shall the land mourn, and the herbs of the whole country wither? for the wickedness of them that dwell therein, the beasts are consumed, and the birds; because they said, He shall not see our latter end.\par


And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.\par


Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride; for the land shall become a waste.\par


For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passeth through; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beasts are fled, they are gone.


The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary;\par\tab He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces:\par\tab They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.


And I will make your cities a waste, and will bring your sanctuaries unto desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors.


Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.\par


Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of Jehovah's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he will make an end, yea, a terrible end, of all them that dwell in the land.\par
