But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David's brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man.


The words of his mouth are iniquity and deceit:\par\tab He hath ceased to be wise {\i and} to do good.


He deviseth iniquity upon his bed;\par\tab He setteth himself in a way that is not good;\par\tab He abhorreth not evil.\par


Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge,\par\tab Who eat up my people {\i as} they eat bread,\par\tab And call not upon God?


They know not, neither do they understand;\par\tab They walk to and fro in darkness:\par\tab All the foundations of the earth are shaken.


Evil men understand not justice;\par\tab But they that seek Jehovah understand all things.


The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib; {\i but} Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.


When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire; for it is a people of no understanding: therefore he that made them will not have compassion upon them, and he that formed them will show them no favor.\par


But they are together brutish and foolish: the instruction of idols! it is but a stock.


Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.


The priests said not, Where is Jehovah? and they that handle the law knew me not: the rulers also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.\par


How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?


Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; that have eyes, and see not; that have ears, and hear not:


Then I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish; for they know not the way of Jehovah, nor the law of their God:


Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.


And they bend their tongue, {\i as it were} their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.


And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves to commit iniquity.


How weak is thy heart, saith the Lord Jehovah, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an impudent harlot;


Hear the word of Jehovah, ye children of Israel; for Jehovah hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor goodness, nor knowledge of God in the land.


My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also will forget thy children.


Their doings will not suffer them to turn unto their God; for the spirit of whoredom is within them, and they know not Jehovah.


For they know not to do right, saith Jehovah, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.


Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.


Their hands are upon that which is evil to do it diligently; the prince asketh, and the judge {\i is ready} for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth the evil desire of his soul: thus they weave it together.


And his lord commended the unrighteous steward because he had done wisely: for the sons of this world are for their own generation wiser than the sons of the light.


And these things will they do, because they have not known the Father, nor me.


Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,


And even as they refused to have God in {\i their} knowledge, God gave them up unto a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not fitting;


For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I rejoice therefore over you: but I would have you wise unto that which is good, and simple unto that which is evil.


{\b There is none that understandeth,\par\tab There is none that seeketh after God;}


Brethren, be not children in mind: yet in malice be ye babes, but in mind be men.


For they are a nation void of counsel, And there is no understanding in them.


Do ye thus requite Jehovah, O foolish people and unwise? Is not he thy father that hath bought thee? He hath made thee, and established thee.
