Now in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month, which was the nineteenth year of king Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon, came Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, unto Jerusalem.


And they burnt the house of God, and brake down the wall of Jerusalem, and burnt all the palaces thereof with fire, and destroyed all the goodly vessels thereof.


And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.\par


For they have devoured Jacob,\par\tab And laid waste his habitation.


In mine ears {\i saith} Jehovah of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.


But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden and enter in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.\par


For I have set my face upon this city for evil, and not for good, saith Jehovah: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.\par


and the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set this city on fire, and burn it, with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense unto Baal, and poured out drink-offerings unto other gods, to provoke me to anger.


Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Go, and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah, and tell him, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire:


Behold, I will command, saith Jehovah, and cause them to return to this city; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire: and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.\par


For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yet would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.\par


But if thou wilt not go forth to the king of Babylon's princes, then shall this city be given into the hand of the Chaldeans, and they shall burn it with fire, and thou shalt not escape out of their hand.


Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her branches; for they are not Jehovah's.


Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, mine anger and my wrath shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.\par


The adversary hath spread out his hand upon all her pleasant things:\par\tab For she hath seen that the nations are entered into her sanctuary,\par\tab Concerning whom thou didst command that they should not enter into thine assembly.


The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob, and hath not pitied:\par\tab He hath thrown down in his wrath the strongholds of the daughter of Judah;\par\tab He hath brought them down to the ground; he hath profaned the kingdom and the princes thereof.


The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath abhorred his sanctuary;\par\tab He hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces:\par\tab They have made a noise in the house of Jehovah, as in the day of a solemn assembly.


And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt also give no hire any more.


And the company shall stone them with stones, and despatch them with their swords; they shall slay their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses with fire.


And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth {\i month}, in the fifth {\i day} of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten.


But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.\par


Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.\par
