Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth:\par\tab Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.


Jehovah hath chastened me sore;\par\tab But he hath not given me over unto death.


Before I was afflicted I went astray;\par\tab But now I observe thy word.


I know, O Jehovah, that thy judgments are righteous,\par\tab And that in faithfulness thou hast afflicted me.


My times are in thy hand:\par\tab Deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me.


Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding;\par\tab Whose trappings must be bit and bridle to hold them in,\par\tab {\i Else} they will not come near unto thee.


Turn us again, O Jehovah God of hosts;\par\tab Cause thy face to shine, and we shall be saved.\par

Thy sons have fainted, they lie at the head of all the streets, as an antelope in a net; they are full of the wrath of Jehovah, the rebuke of thy God.\par


He was oppressed, yet when he was afflicted he opened not his mouth; as a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep that before its shearers is dumb, so he opened not his mouth.


For thou art our Father, though Abraham knoweth us not, and Israel doth not acknowledge us: thou, O Jehovah, art our Father; our Redeemer from everlasting is thy name.


Yet the people have not turned unto him that smote them, neither have they sought Jehovah of hosts.


Heal me, O Jehovah, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.


In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.


Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.\par


For there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto Jehovah our God.\par


They shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.\par


O Jehovah, do not thine eyes look upon truth? thou hast stricken them, but they were not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.\par


Turn thou us unto thee, O Jehovah, and we shall be turned;\par\tab Renew our days as of old.


And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have polluted yourselves; and ye shall loathe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.


As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil is come upon us: yet have we not entreated the favor of Jehovah our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in thy truth.


And Ephraim is a heifer that is taught, that loveth to tread out {\i the grain}; but I have passed over upon her fair neck: I will set a rider on Ephraim; Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods.\par


For Israel hath behaved himself stubbornly, like a stubborn heifer: now will Jehovah feed them as a lamb in a large place.


I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me earnestly.\par


And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil which he said he would do unto them; and he did it not.\par


She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in Jehovah; she drew not near to her God.


Then they that feared Jehovah spake one with another; and Jehovah hearkened, and heard, and a book of remembrance was written before him, for them that feared Jehovah, and that thought upon his name.


And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers; lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.\par


On the west side shall be the standard of the camp of Ephraim according to their hosts: and the prince of the children of Ephraim shall be Elishama the son of Ammihud.


And he shall go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, {\b to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children,} and the disobedient {\i to walk} in the wisdom of the just; to make ready for the Lord a people prepared {\i for him}.


And he arose, and came to his father. But while he was yet afar off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him.


Unto you first God, having raised up his Servant, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.\par


for it is God who worketh in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.


and ye have forgotten the exhortation which reasoneth with you as with sons,\par\tab {\b My son, regard not lightly the chastening of the Lord,\par\tab Nor faint when thou art reproved of him;}


As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
