And when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.


And Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.


Go ye, inquire of Jehovah for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of Jehovah that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Jehovah, to do according unto all that is written in this book.\par


And Jehovah repented of the evil which he said he would do unto his people.


For, behold, Jehovah cometh forth out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain.\par


And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of Jehovah.


It may be Jehovah thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to defy the living God, and will rebuke the words which Jehovah thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.\par


Only know ye for certain that, if ye put me to death, ye will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, and upon this city, and upon the inhabitants thereof; for of a truth Jehovah hath sent me unto you to speak all these words in your ears.\par


It may be they will hearken, and turn every man from his evil way; that I may repent me of the evil which I purpose to do unto them because of the evil of their doings.


Therefore now thus saith Jehovah, the God of hosts, the God of Israel: Wherefore commit ye {\i this} great evil against your own souls, to cut off from you man and woman, infant and suckling, out of the midst of Judah, to leave you none remaining;


Jehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.\par


Thou hast devised shame to thy house, by cutting off many peoples, and hast sinned against thy soul.


Now {\i they of} Beth-el had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to entreat the favor of Jehovah,


even the censers of these sinners against their own lives; and let them be made beaten plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign unto the children of Israel.


that upon you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of Abel the righteous unto the blood of Zachariah son of Barachiah, whom ye slew between the sanctuary and the altar.


but if it is of God, ye will not be able to overthrow them; lest haply ye be found even to be fighting against God.


for they poured out the blood of saints and prophets, and blood hast thou given them to drink: they are worthy.
