Therefore he brought upon them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, old man or hoary-headed: he gave them all into his hand.


They shall be given over to the power of the sword:\par\tab They shall be a portion for foxes.


But the king shall rejoice in God:\par\tab Every one that sweareth by him shall glory;\par\tab For the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.\par


and my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.


And {\i their} bows shall dash the young men in pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.


For they that lead this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.


Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for every one is profane and an evil-doer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.\par


But thou, O Jehovah, knowest me; thou seest me, and triest my heart toward thee: pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and prepare them for the day of slaughter.


And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them—them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.


And I have winnowed them with a fan in the gates of the land; I have bereaved {\i them} of children, I have destroyed my people; they returned not from their ways.


Their widows are increased to me above the sand of the seas; I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a destroyer at noonday: I have caused anguish and terrors to fall upon her suddenly.


Therefore shall her young men fall in her streets, and all her men of war shall be brought to silence in that day, saith Jehovah.


For death is come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from without, {\i and} the young men from the streets.


The Lord hath set at nought all my mighty men in the midst of me;\par\tab He hath called a solemn assembly against me to crush my young men:\par\tab The Lord hath trodden as in a winepress the virgin daughter of Judah.


We are orphans and fatherless;\par\tab Our mothers are as widows.


And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring upon thee the blood of wrath and jealousy.


There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey: they have devoured souls; they take treasure and precious things; they have made her widows many in the midst thereof.


I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I have made the stench of your camp to come up even into your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith Jehovah.


Without shall the sword bereave, And in the chambers terror; It shall destroy both young man and virgin, The suckling with the man of gray hairs.


Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord will render to him according to his works:


And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal.
