Then were the people of Israel divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king; and half followed Omri.


But the wicked shall perish,\par\tab And the enemies of Jehovah shall be as the fat of lambs:\par\tab They shall consume; in smoke shall they consume away.


As smoke is driven away, so drive them away:\par\tab As wax melteth before the fire,\par\tab So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.


As the fire that burneth the forest,\par\tab And as the flame that setteth the mountains on fire,


And the strong shall be as tow, and his work as a spark; and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench them.\par


Your country is desolate; your cities are burned with fire; your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and it is desolate, as overthrown by strangers.


Jehovah, thy hand is lifted up, yet they see not: but they shall see {\i thy} zeal for the people, and be put to shame; yea, fire shall devour thine adversaries.


Wrath is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together.


And the people shall be oppressed, every one by another, and every one by his neighbor: the child shall behave himself proudly against the old man, and the base against the honorable.


And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of {\i his} anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones.


For a Topheth is prepared of old; yea, for the king it is made ready; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.\par


And the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.\par


The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the godless ones: Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?


Therefore as the tongue of fire devoureth the stubble, and as the dry grass sinketh down in the flame, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.


Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that gird yourselves about with firebrands; walk ye in the flame of your fire, and among the brands that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of my hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.\par


And they bend their tongue, {\i as it were} their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.


Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the dew that passeth early away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing-floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.\par


but I will remove far off from you the northern {\i army}, and will drive it into a land barren and desolate, its forepart into the eastern sea, and its hinder part into the western sea; and its stench shall come up, and its ill savor shall come up, because it hath done great things.\par


A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and none hath escaped them.\par


Thus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, the Lord Jehovah called to contend by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.


And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall burn among them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining to the house of Esau; for Jehovah hath spoken it.


For entangled like thorns, and drunken as with their drink, they are consumed utterly as dry stubble.


Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his wrath is poured out like fire, and the rocks are broken asunder by him.


For, behold, the day cometh, it burneth as a furnace; and all the proud, and all that work wickedness, shall be stubble; and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith Jehovah of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.


Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:


For a fire is kindled in mine anger, And burneth unto the lowest Sheol, And devoureth the earth with its increase, And setteth on fire the foundations of the mountains.


but if it beareth thorns and thistles, it is rejected and nigh unto a curse; whose end is to be burned.\par


and the smoke of their torment goeth up for ever and ever; and they have no rest day and night, they that worship the beast and his image, and whoso receiveth the mark of his name.
