But the army of the Chaldeans pursued after the king, and overtook him in the plains of Jericho; and all his army was scattered from him.


Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great?\par\tab Or wilt thou leave to him thy labor?


He delighteth not in the strength of the horse:\par\tab He taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man.


A horse is a vain thing for safety;\par\tab Neither doth he deliver any by his great power.


And their land is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land also is full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots.


Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Jehovah!


Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit: and when Jehovah shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall stumble, and he that is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.\par


And it came to pass that, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, through the gate betwixt the two walls; and he went out toward the Arabah.

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen.

Jehovah will bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;
