Except Jehovah of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, we should have been like unto Gomorrah.\par


For though thy people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, {\i only} a remnant of them shall return: a destruction {\i is} determined, overflowing with righteousness.


For thus shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done.\par


And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will beat off {\i his fruit} from the flood of the River unto the brook of Egypt; and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel.\par


For thus saith Jehovah, The whole land shall be a desolation; yet will I not make a full end.


neither will I hide my face any more from them; for I have poured out my Spirit upon the house of Israel, saith the Lord Jehovah.\par


If thieves came to thee, if robbers by night (how art thou cut off!), would they not steal {\i only} till they had enough? if grape-gatherers came to thee, would they not leave some gleaning grapes?


Woe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape gleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat; my soul desireth the first-ripe fig.


and so all Israel shall be saved: even as it is written,\par\tab {\b There shall come out of Zion the Deliverer;\par\tab He shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:}


And Isaiah crieth concerning Israel, {\b If the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that shall be saved:}


And Jehovah will scatter you among the peoples, and ye shall be left few in number among the nations, whither Jehovah shall lead you away.


And he said unto them, What have I now done in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
