And when the builders laid the foundation of the temple of Jehovah, they set the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites the sons of Asaph with cymbals, to praise Jehovah, after the order of David king of Israel.


Then ceased the work of the house of God which is at Jerusalem; and it ceased until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.\par


Whoso is wise will give heed to these things;\par\tab And they will consider the lovingkindnesses of Jehovah.


And the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are {\i in} their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.\par


Who is wise, that he may understand these things? prudent, that he may know them? for the ways of Jehovah are right, and the just shall walk in them; but transgressors shall fall therein.\par


Now therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

Consider, I pray you, from this day and backward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth {\i month}, since the day that the foundation of Jehovah's temple was laid, consider it.


For before those days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in, because of the adversary: for I set all men every one against his neighbor.


But now I will not be unto the remnant of this people as in the former days, saith Jehovah of hosts.


What fruit then had ye at that time in the things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.


But if we discerned ourselves, we should not be judged.
