Let the righteous smite me, {\i it shall be} a kindness;\par\tab And let him reprove me, {\i it shall be as} oil upon the head;\par\tab Let not my head refuse it:\par\tab For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.


They that sit in the gate talk of me;\par\tab And {\i I am} the song of the drunkards.


Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself;\par\tab But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.


Poverty and shame {\i shall be to} him that refuseth correction;\par\tab But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.


A rebuke entereth deeper into one that hath understanding\par\tab Than a hundred stripes into a fool.


{\i As} an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,\par\tab {\i So is} a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.


Faithful are the wounds of a friend;\par\tab But the kisses of an enemy are profuse.


For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light;\par\tab And reproofs of instruction are the way of life:


Reprove not a scoffer, lest he hate thee:\par\tab Reprove a wise man, and he will love thee.


The words of the wise are as goads; and as nails well fastened are {\i the words of} the masters of assemblies, {\i which} are given from one shepherd.


The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth.\par


The words of the wise heard in quiet are better than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.


As many as I love, I reprove and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
