For, lo, our fathers have fallen by the sword, and our sons and our daughters and our wives are in captivity for this.


But the eyes of the wicked shall fail,\par\tab And they shall have no way to flee;\par\tab And their hope shall be the giving up of the ghost.\par


He that denounceth his friends for a prey,\par\tab Even the eyes of his children shall fail.\par


Then let me sow, and let another eat;\par\tab Yea, let the produce of my field be rooted out.\par


Mine eyes fail for thy salvation,\par\tab And for thy righteous word.


Mine eyes fail for thy word,\par\tab While I say, When wilt thou comfort me?


I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried:\par\tab Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.


Like a swallow {\i or} a crane, so did I chatter;\par\tab I did moan as a dove; mine eyes fail {\i with looking} upward:\par\tab O Lord, I am oppressed, be thou my surety.

And thou, son of man, shall it not be in the day when I take from them their strength, the joy of their glory, the desire of their eyes, and that whereupon they set their heart, their sons and their daughters,


and have sold the children of Judah and the children of Jerusalem unto the sons of the Grecians, that ye may remove them far from their border;


Therefore will I cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith Jehovah, whose name is the God of hosts.\par


Woe to them that devise iniquity and work evil upon their beds! when the morning is light, they practise it, because it is in the power of their hand.


Be in pain, and labor to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and shalt dwell in the field, and shalt come even unto Babylon: there shalt thou be rescued; there will Jehovah redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.


Woe to thee, Moab! Thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: He hath given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, Unto Sihon king of the Amorites.


Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock.


Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to save thee.


Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be thine; for they shall go into captivity.


And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of thy foot: but Jehovah will give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul;
