The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art thou not a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.


Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok's son, and Jonathan, Abiathar's son; and by them ye shall send unto me everything that ye shall hear.


Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz were staying by En-rogel; and a maid-servant used to go and tell them; and they went and told king David: for they might not be seen to come into the city.


And Joab said unto him, Thou shalt not be the bearer of tidings this day, but thou shalt bear tidings another day; but this day thou shalt bear no tidings, because the king's son is dead.


But come what may, said he, I will run. And he said unto him, Run. Then Ahimaaz ran by the way of the Plain, and outran the Cushite.


And, behold, the Cushite came; and the Cushite said, Tidings for my lord the king; for Jehovah hath avenged thee this day of all them that rose up against thee.


Thou hast seen {\i it}; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand:\par\tab The helpless committeth {\i himself} unto thee;\par\tab Thou hast been the helper of the fatherless.


To judge the fatherless and the oppressed,\par\tab That man who is of the earth may be terrible no more.\par


Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;\par\tab Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,\par\tab And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.


Jehovah hath made himself known, he hath executed judgment:\par\tab The wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. {\i Higgaion.\par\tab Selah.\par


For thou hast maintained my right and my cause;\par\tab Thou sittest in the throne judging righteously.


One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:


Avenge not yourselves, beloved, but give place unto the wrath {\i of God}: for it is written, {\b Vengeance belongeth unto me; I will recompense,} saith the Lord.
