For Ahaz took away a portion out of the house of Jehovah, and out of the house of the king and of the princes, and gave it unto the king of Assyria: but it helped him not.\par


Wherefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away of his a great multitude of captives, and brought them to Damascus. And he was also delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter.


Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?


The burden of Damascus.\par\tab Behold, Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap.

Of a truth, Jehovah, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the countries, and their land,


For before the child shall know to refuse the evil, and choose the good, the land whose two kings thou abhorrest shall be forsaken.


The bricks are fallen, but we will build with hewn stone; the sycomores are cut down, but we will put cedars in their place.


Therefore Jehovah will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies,


Are ye not as the children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith Jehovah. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
