Let the righteous smite me, {\i it shall be} a kindness;\par\tab And let him reprove me, {\i it shall be as} oil upon the head;\par\tab Let not my head refuse it:\par\tab For even in their wickedness shall my prayer continue.


If the thief be found breaking in, and be smitten so that he dieth, there shall be no bloodguiltiness for him.


The law of the wise is a fountain of life,\par\tab That one may depart from the snares of death.


A rebuke entereth deeper into one that hath understanding\par\tab Than a hundred stripes into a fool.


{\i As} an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,\par\tab {\i So is} a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.


The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold;\par\tab And a man is {\i tried} by his praise.


He that rebuketh a man shall afterward find more favor\par\tab Than he that flattereth with the tongue.


Give {\i instruction} to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser:\par\tab Teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning.


For if a man find his enemy, will he let him go well away? wherefore Jehovah reward thee good for that which thou hast done unto me this day.


Now therefore, my lord, as Jehovah liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing Jehovah hath withholden thee from bloodguiltiness, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now therefore let thine enemies, and them that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.


that this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood without cause, or that my lord hath avenged himself. And when Jehovah shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thy handmaid.
