And the thing which he did was evil in the sight of Jehovah: and he slew him also.


And Er, Judah's first-born, was wicked in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah slew him.


If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come and swear before thine altar in this house;


then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head, and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness.


So the king hearkened not unto the people; for it was brought about of God, that Jehovah might establish his word, which he spake by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.\par


And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that {\i the king} said unto him, Have we made thee of the king's counsel? forbear; why shouldest thou be smitten? Then the prophet forbare, and said, I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel.\par


There is no umpire betwixt us,\par\tab That might lay his hand upon us both.


For thou delightest not in sacrifice; else would I give it:\par\tab Thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.


Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,\par\tab And done that which is evil in thy sight;\par\tab That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest,\par\tab And be clear when thou judgest.


A wise son {\i heareth} his father's instruction;\par\tab But a scoffer heareth not rebuke.


There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way;\par\tab {\i And} he that hateth reproof shall die.


He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck\par\tab Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy


a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;


But the soul that doeth aught with a high hand, whether he be home-born or a sojourner, the same blasphemeth Jehovah; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people.


Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; ye shall hear the small and the great alike; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God's: and the cause that is too hard for you ye shall bring unto me, and I will hear it.


But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Jehovah thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as at this day.


For there is one God, one mediator also between God and men, {\i himself} man, Christ Jesus,


For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins,


but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and {\b a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries.}


Wherefore also he is able to save to the uttermost them that draw near unto God through him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.\par


For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.


And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be expiated with sacrifice nor offering for ever.
