When thy people Israel are smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; if they turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication unto thee in this house:


yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly;


And the seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.


We have sinned with our fathers,\par\tab We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.


Then shalt thou remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder {\i sisters} and thy younger; and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant.


that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more, because of thy shame, when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord Jehovah.\par


Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.


Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.


And I will sow them among the peoples; and they shall remember me in far countries; and they shall live with their children, and shall return.


And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication; and they shall look unto me whom they have pierced; and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his first-born.


And they gathered together to Mizpah, and drew water, and poured it out before Jehovah, and fasted on that day, and said there, We have sinned against Jehovah. And Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.
