Psalm 83 - Modern English Version

A Song. A Psalm of Asaph.

Do not keep silent, O God; do not hold Your peace or be still, O God.

For behold, Your enemies make an uproar, and those who hate You have exalted themselves.

They have taken crafty counsel against Your people, and consulted together against Your treasured ones.

They have said, “Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation, that the name of Israel may be remembered no more.”

For they have conspired together with one accord; they form an alliance against You—

the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites;

Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek; Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre;

Asshur also has joined them; they have helped the descendants of Lot.    Selah

Do to them as You did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,

who perished at Endor; they became as dung for the ground.

Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,

who said, “Let us take possession for ourselves the pastures of God.”

O my God, make them like whirling dust, like chaff before the wind.

As fire burns the forest, as the flame sets the mountains ablaze,

so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm.

Fill their faces with shame, that they may seek Your name, O  Lord.

Let them be shamed and dismayed forever; let them be humiliated and perish,

that they may know that You alone, whose name is the Lord, are the Most High over all the earth.
