Psalm 58 - Modern English VersionFor the Music Director. To the melody of “Do Not Destroy.” A Miktam of David. 1 Do you indeed speak righteousness, O heavenly gods? Do you judge uprightly, O earthly men? 2 No, in your heart you work wickedness; you deal out violence with your hands on earth. 3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; those who speak lies go astray from birth. 4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent; they are like the deaf adder that stops its ear, 5 and will not listen to the voice of charmers, charming ever so cunningly. 6 O God, break their teeth in their mouths; break out the fangs of the young lions, O Lord! 7 Let them vanish like waters which run continually; when he aims his arrows, let them be as broken pieces. 8 Let them be like a snail that melts as it goes, like the stillborn child of a woman, who never sees the sun. 9 Before your pots can feel the heat of thorns, whether green or burning, He will sweep them away with a whirlwind! 10 The righteous will rejoice when he sees the vengeance; he will wash his feet in the blood of the wicked. 11 People will say, “Surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely there is a God who judges on earth.” |
