Psalm 137 - Modern English Version1 By the rivers of Babylon, there we sat down and wept when we remembered Zion. 2 Upon the willows in the midst of it we hung our harps. 3 For there, those who carried us away captive required of us songs, and our plunderers, mirth, saying, “Sing us one of the songs of Zion!” 4 How shall we sing the song of the Lord in a foreign land? 5 If I forget you, O Jerusalem, let my right hand forget its cunning! 6 If I do not remember you, let my tongue cling to the roof of my mouth, if I prefer not Jerusalem above my highest joy. 7 Remember, O Lord, against the Edomites the day of Jerusalem, who said, “Raze it, raze it, to its foundation!” 8 O daughter of Babylon, destined to be destroyed, blessed shall he be who rewards you as you have served us! 9 Blessed shall he be who takes your little ones and dashes them against the rocks! |
