² H7227And the captainH2876of the guardH3947took[H8799] H3414JeremiahH559, and said[H8799] H3068unto him, The LORDH430thy GodH1696hath pronounced[H8765] H7451this evilH4725upon this place.

³ H3068Now the LORDH935hath brought[H8686] H6213it, and done[H8799] H1696according as he hath said[H8765] H2398: because ye have sinned[H8804] H3068against the LORDH8085, and have not obeyed[H8804] H6963his voiceH1697, therefore this thing is come upon you.

⁴ H6605And now, behold, I loose[H8765] H3117thee this dayH246from the chainsH3027which were upon thine handH2896. If it seem goodH5869 H935unto thee to come[H8800] H894with me into BabylonH935, come[H8798] H7760; and I will look well[H8799] H5869 H7489unto thee: but if it seem ill[H8804] H5869 H935unto thee to come[H8800] H894with me into BabylonH2308, forbear[H8798] H7200: behold[H8798] H776, all the landH6440is beforeH413thee: whither it seemethH2896goodH3477and convenientH5869 H3212for thee to go[H8800] H3212, thither go[H8798] .

⁵ H7725Now while he was not yet gone back[H8799] H7725, he said, Go back[H8798] H1436also to GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH1121the sonH8227of ShaphanH4428, whom the kingH894of BabylonH6485hath made governor[H8689] H5892over the citiesH3063of JudahH3427, and dwell[H8798] H8432with him amongH5971the peopleH3212: or go[H8798] H3477wheresoever it seemeth convenientH5869 H3212unto thee to go[H8800] H7227. So the captainH2876of the guardH5414gave[H8799] H737him victualsH4864and a rewardH7971, and let him go[H8762] .

⁶ H935Then went[H8799] H3414JeremiahH1436unto GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH4708to MizpahH3427; and dwelt[H8799] H8432with him amongH5971the peopleH7604that were left[H8737] H776in the land.

⁷ H8269Now when all the captainsH2428of the forcesH7704which were in the fieldsH582, even they and their menH8085, heard[H8799] H4428that the kingH894of BabylonH1436had made GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH6485governor[H8689] H776in the landH6485, and had committed[H8689] H582unto him menH802, and womenH2945, and childrenH1803, and of the poorH776of the landH1540, of them that were not carried away captive[H8717] H894to Babylon;

⁸ H935Then they came[H8799] H1436to GedaliahH4708to MizpahH3458, even IshmaelH1121the sonH5418of NethaniahH3110, and JohananH3129and JonathanH1121the sonsH7143of KareahH8304, and SeraiahH1121the sonH8576of TanhumethH1121, and the sonsH5778of EphaiH5200the NetophathiteH3153, and JezaniahH1121the sonH4602of a MaachathiteH582, they and their men.

⁹ H1436And GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH1121the sonH8227of ShaphanH7650sware[H8735] H582unto them and to their menH559, saying[H8800] H3372, Fear[H8799] H5647not to serve[H8800] H3778the ChaldeansH3427: dwell in[H8798] H776the landH5647, and serve[H8798] H4428the kingH894of BabylonH3190, and it shall be well[H8799]  with you.

¹⁰ H3427As for me, behold, I will dwell[H8802] H4709at MizpahH5975to serve[H8800] H6440 H3778the ChaldeansH935, which will come[H8799] H622unto us: but ye, gather[H8798] H3196ye wineH7019, and summer fruitsH8081, and oilH7760, and put[H8798] H3627them in your vesselsH3427, and dwell[H8798] H5892in your citiesH8610that ye have taken[H8804] .

¹¹ H3064Likewise when all the JewsH4124that were in MoabH5983, and among the AmmonitesH123, and in EdomH776, and that were in all the countriesH8085, heard[H8804] H4428that the kingH894of BabylonH5414had left[H8804] H7611a remnantH3063of JudahH6485, and that he had set[H8689] H1436over them GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH1121the sonH8227of Shaphan;

¹² H3064Even all the JewsH7725returned out[H8799] H4725of all placesH5080whither they were driven[H8738] H935, and came[H8799] H776to the landH3063of JudahH1436, to GedaliahH4708, unto MizpahH622, and gathered[H8799] H3196wineH7019and summer fruitsH3966veryH7235much[H8687] .

¹³ H3110Moreover JohananH1121the sonH7143of KareahH8269, and all the captainsH2428of the forcesH7704that were in the fieldsH935, came[H8804] H1436to GedaliahH4708to Mizpah,

¹⁴ H559And said[H8799] H3045unto him, Dost thou certainly[H8800] H3045know[H8799] H1185that BaalisH4428the kingH1121of the AmmonitesH5983 H7971hath sent[H8804] H3458IshmaelH1121the sonH5418of NethaniahH5221to slay[H8687] H5315 H1436thee? But GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH539believed[H8689]  them not.

¹⁵ H3110Then JohananH1121the sonH7143of KareahH559spake[H8804] H1436to GedaliahH4709in MizpahH5643secretlyH559, saying[H8800] H3212, Let me go[H8799] H5221, I pray thee, and I will slay[H8686] H3458IshmaelH1121the sonH5418of NethaniahH376, and no manH3045shall know[H8799] H5221it : wherefore should he slay[H8686] H5315 H3064thee, that all the JewsH6908which are gathered[H8737] H6327unto thee should be scattered[H8738] H7611, and the remnantH3063in JudahH6perish[H8804] ?

¹⁶ H1436But GedaliahH1121the sonH296of AhikamH559said[H8799] H3110unto JohananH1121the sonH7143of KareahH6213, Thou shalt not do[H8799] H1697this thingH1696: for thou speakest[H8802] H8267falselyH3458of Ishmael.
