¹ {\b A Song of Ascents; of Solomon.}\par\par\tab Except Jehovah build the house,\par\tab They labor in vain that build it:\par\tab Except Jehovah keep the city,\par\tab The watchman waketh but in vain.

² It is vain for you to rise up early,\par\tab To take rest late,\par\tab To eat the bread of toil;\par\tab {\i For} so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.

³ Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah;\par\tab {\i And} the fruit of the womb is {\i his} reward.

⁴ As arrows in the hand of a mighty man,\par\tab So are the children of youth.

⁵ Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:\par\tab They shall not be put to shame,\par\tab When they speak with their enemies in the gate.
