Therefore ʜᴇ swore to them that ʜᴇ would overthrow them in the wilderness,
Therefore ʜᴇ consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
I will purge y’all of the rebels who disobey me. I will bring them out of the land where they are living, but they will not enter into the land of Israel. Then y’all will know that I am YHWH.”
So all those who were counted of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel—
all those who were counted were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.
But among these there was not a man of them who were counted by Moses and Aaron the priest, who counted the children of Israel in the wilderness of Sinai.
For YHWH had said of them, “They will die-die in the wilderness.” None of them was left of them, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.
Nevertheless, God was not pleased with most of them, and they were cut down in the wilderness.
The time from when we travelled from Kadesh Barnea until we came to Zered Valley was thirty-eight years, until the entire generation of fighting men had perished from the camp, as YHWH had sworn to them.
And with whom was he angry for forty years? Wasn’t it with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to YHWH’s voice. YHWH swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which YHWH swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.
Now I want to remind y’all–even though y’all already know it–that after the Lord saved a people out of the land of Egypt, he later destroyed those who didn’t believe.
