Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are y’all bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful service for me.
He said, “Y’all go into the city to a certain man, and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is near. I will observe the Passover at your house with my disciples.”’”
While he was saying these things to them, a synagogue official came and bowed down before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.”
As he started out on his way, a man ran to him, knelt before him, and asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Then one of the rulers of the synagogue, named Jairus, came, and seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet
While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue official’s house came and said to him, “Your daughter is dead. Don’t trouble the Teacher anymore.”
Then Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.
When she had said this, she went away and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”
When Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet and said to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”
Jesus said, “Y’all move the stone away.” Martha, the sister of the dead man, said to him, “Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
Truly I tell y’all, the hour is coming and is present, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice, and those who hear will live.
