“Son of humanity, pose a riddle, and tell a parable to the house of Israel;
When he had agreed to pay the laborers a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.
But Jesus, perceiving their evil intentions, said, “Hypocrites! Why are y’all trying to trap me?
Some Pharisees came and asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” (They were testing him).
When they had come, they asked him, “Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and you are not concerned about anyone because you don’t focus on the face of humans, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?
They brought it. He said to them, “Whose image and inscription is this?” They said to him, “Caesar’s.”
He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you have affection for me?” Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, “Do you have affection for me?” He said to him, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I have affection for you.” Jesus said to him, “Take care of my sheep.
They said this to test him, so they would have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.
But Peter said to her, “Why is it that y’all have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well.”
Let us not test Christ, as some of them did, and perished by the serpents.
