David said, “Solomon my son is young and tender, and the house that is to be built for YHWH must be exceedingly magnificent, of fame and of glory throughout all countries. I will therefore make preparation for it.” So David prepared abundantly before his death.


They sang to one another in praising and giving thanks to YHWH, “For he is good, for his lovingkindness endures forever toward Israel.” All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised YHWH, because the foundation of the house of YHWH had been laid.


But many of the priests and Levites and heads of fathers’ households, the old men who had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice. Many also shouted aloud for joy,


Your holy cities have become a wilderness. Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.


As for the beauty of his ornament, he set it in majesty; but they made the images of their abominations and their detestable things therein. Therefore I have made it to them as an unclean thing.


‘The latter glory of this house will be greater than the former,’ says YHWH Almighty; ‘and in this place I will give peace,’ says YHWH Almighty.”
