and the Horites in their Mount Seir, to El Paran, which is by the wilderness.


Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with some of that red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.


Jacob sent messengers in front of him to Esau, his brother, to the land of Seir, the field of Edom.


He commanded them, saying, “This is what y’all are to tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.


Now this is the history of the generations of Esau (that is, Edom).


chief Magdiel, and chief Iram. These are the chiefs of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is Esau, the father of the Edomites.

Some of them, even of the sons of Simeon, five hundred men, went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah, Neariah, Rephaiah, and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

The vision of Obadiah. This is what Lord YHWH says about Edom. We have heard news from YHWH, and an ambassador is sent among the nations, saying, “Rise up y’all, and let’s rise up against her in battle.


The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’


but Esau I have hated. I have made his mountains into a wasteland, and I gave his inheritance to the jackals of the wilderness.”


This is what ʜᴇ did for the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them, and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day.


You are to command the people, ‘Y’all will pass through the border of y’all’s relatives the descendants of Esau, who dwell in Seir. They will be afraid of y’all, but y’all must be careful.


Y’all are not to contend with them, because I will not give y’all any of their land, not even enough for a footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.


I gave to Isaac Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Seir, as a possession. Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.


Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side: against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines. Wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.
