Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan Aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife.


Now therefore, my son, obey my voice. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, in Haran.


Now Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan Aram, to take him a wife from there, and that as he blessed him he gave him a command, saying, “You must not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan;”


Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan didn’t please Isaac, his father.


“Honor your father and your mother, so that your days may be long in the ground which YHWH your God gives you.


My son, listen to your father’s instruction, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching;


“The eye that mocks a father, and despises obedience to a mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, the young eagles will eat it.


“‘Each one of y’all is to respect their mother father, and y’all are to keep my Sabbaths. I am YHWH y’all’s God.


Children, y’all are to obey your* parents in the Lord, for this is right.


“so that it may go well with you, and you may live long on the earth.”


Children, obey y’all’s parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord.
