David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “Get up, y’all! Let’s flee or none of us will escape from Absalom. Y’all need to hurry and depart, so he won’t overtake us quickly and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”


The king went out, and all his household after him. The king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house.

King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, “Y’all are to speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘Why are y’all the last to bring the king back to his house, since the talk of all Israel has come to the king at his house?


So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.


All the people were arguing throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines. But now he has fled from the land from Absalom.


They have set up kings, but not by me. They have made princes, and I didn’t approve. Of their silver and their gold they have made themselves idols, that they may be cut off.


They said, “Arise, and let’s go up against them. We have seen the land, it is very good! Are y’all going to stand still? Y’all must not hesitate in going in to seize the land.
