The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. The Syrians of Zobah and of Rehob and the men of Tob and Maacah were by themselves in the field.


David sent the people out, a third part under the hand of Joab, and a third part under the hand of Abishai the son of Zeruiah, Joab’s brother, and a third part under the hand of Ittai the Gittite. The king said to the people, “I myself will go-go with y’all.”


When Judah looked back, the battle was in front of them and behind them, so they cried to YHWH, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.
