When David rose up in the morning, the word of YHWH came to the prophet Gad, David’s seer, saying,
He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them to lie down on the ground; and he measured two lines to put to death, and one full line to keep alive. The Moabites became servants to David, and brought tribute.
David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was in Bethlehem at that time.
Some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the stronghold to David.
Now the acts of David the king, first and last, are written in the history of Samuel the seer, and in the history of Nathan the prophet, and in the history of Gad the seer,
He set the Levites in the house of YHWH with cymbals, with stringed instruments, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, of Gad the king’s seer, and Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was from YHWH by his prophets.
I said, “Should a man like me flee? Who is there that, being such as I, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.”
In YHWH, I take refuge. How can y’all say to my soul, “Y’all should flee like a bird to a mountain”?
But when they persecute y’all in this city, flee into the next, for truly I tell y’all, y’all will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the Son of Humanity comes.
David went from there to Mizpeh of Moab. He said to the king of Moab, “Please let my father and my mother saty with y’all, until I know what God will do for me.”
The prophet Gad said to David, “Don’t stay in the stronghold. Depart and go to the land of Judah.” Then David departed and went into the forest of Hereth.
