He said, “My son must not go down with y’all; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which y’all go, then y’all will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”


Surely I will require accounting for y’all’s lifeblood. At the hand of every animal I will require it. At the hand of every human, even at the hand of every person’s brother or sister, I will require the life of person.


Whoever sheds human blood, by humans will their blood be shed, for in the image of God God made humankind.


I am weak today, though anointed king. These men, the sons of Zeruiah are too hard for me. May YHWH reward the evildoer according to his wickedness.”


But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table. They came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother.


Now therefore don’t hold him guiltless. You are a wise man, and you will know what you ought to do to him. You are to bring his gray head down to Sheol with blood.”


Therefore, I have done according to your word. See, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been no one like you before you, and after you none will arise like you.


‘Therefore look, I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I will bring on this place.’”’” So they brought this message back to the king.


Watch the blameless, and see the upright, for there is a future for the person of peace.


A wise king winnows out the wicked, and drives the threshing wheel over them.


A person who is tormented by blood guilt will be a fugitive until death. No one will support them.


Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.


“There is no peace”, says YHWH, “for the wicked.”


They enter into peace. They rest in their beds, each one who walks in uprightness.


“There is no peace”, says my God, “for the wicked.”


“No more will there be an infant who only lives a few days, nor an old man who has not filled his days; for the child will die one hundred years old, and the sinner being one hundred years old will be accursed.


“‘Y’all must not pollute the land where y’all live, for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of the person who shed it.
