Whosoever shall exalt himself, shall be humbled, and he that shall humble himself, shall be exalted.


He hath wrought strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.


He hath put down the mighty from their thrones, and exalted them of low degree.


Then said he also to him that had invited him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, nor thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours, lest they also invite thee again, and a recompence be made thee.


I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one that exalteth himself shall be humbled, and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.


Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:


Humble yourselves in the sight of God, and he will lift you up.


But he giveth greater grace: therefore it saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.


In like manner, ye younger, submit yourselves to the elder, and be ye all subject to each other. Be ye cloathed with humility; for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.


Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
