yet if they take it to the heart in the land which they have been carried captive, and they repent and make supplication to You in the land of their captors, saying: ‘We have sinned, we have committed iniquity, we have acted wickedly,’


“So now, our God, what should we say after this? For we have forsaken Your mitzvot


We have acted very corruptly against You. We have not kept the mitzvot, the statutes, nor the rulings that You commanded Your servant Moses.


“But they, our ancestors, became arrogant. They stiffened their neck and did not obey Your mitzvot.


So they will not be like their fathers— a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that did not prepare its heart, whose spirit was not loyal to God.


We acknowledge our wickedness, Adonai, the iniquity of our fathers, for we have sinned against You.


Let’s lie down with our shame and let our disgrace cover us! For we have sinned against Adonai Eloheinu —both we and our fathers— from our youth even to this day. We have not paid attention to the voice of Adonai Eloheinu.”
