Pilate said to them, “What then shall I do with Yeshua, who is called Messiah?” “Execute Him!” all of them say.
When Pilate saw he was accomplishing nothing, but instead a riot was starting, he took some water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. “I am innocent of this blood,” he said. “You see to it yourselves!”
Then Pilate said to the ruling kohanim and the crowds, “I find no case against this Man.”
Though they found no charge worthy of a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have Him executed.
As a big dispute was developing, the commander was afraid that Paul would be torn to pieces by them. So he ordered the soldiers to go down and take him by force from among them and to bring him into headquarters.
