‘“So this shall be the sign to you: This year you will eat what grows by itself, in the second year what springs from that. But in the third year, you will sow, reap, plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.
But during the seventh year you are to let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor among your people may eat. Whatever they leave behind, the animals of the field may eat. You are to deal with your vineyard and your olive grove in the same way.
Now if you ask: What are we to eat during the seventh year if, see, we are not to sow, nor gather in our increase?
Now I will command My blessing to you in the sixth year, so that it will yield a harvest sufficient for three years.
You are not to reap what grows by itself during your harvest nor gather the grapes of your untended vine. It is to be a year of Shabbat rest for the land.
Even for your livestock and for the animals that are in your land—all its increase will be enough food.
