They saw the God of Israel, and under His feet was something like a pavement of sapphire, as clear as the very heavens.
Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up.
Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” So Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
But He also said, “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live.”
Then I said: “Oy to me! For I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I am dwelling among a people of unclean lips. For my eyes have seen the King, Adonai-Tzva’ot!”
No one has ever seen God; but the one and only God, in the Father’s embrace, has made Him known.
And the Father who sent Me has testified concerning Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen His form.
to drive out from before you nations greater and mightier than you, to bring you in to give you their land for an inheritance, as it is this day.
If only there were such a heart in them to fear Me and keep all My mitzvot always, so that it might go well with them and with their children forever!
When Gideon realized that He was the angel of Adonai, Gideon said, “Alas, my Lord Adonai! For I have seen the angel of Adonai face to face!”
