Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem—that is Jebus, where the Jebusite inhabitants of the land lived.
These were leaders of the clans listed in their genealogies. These lived in Jerusalem.
that is, those of their descendants that were left after them in the land, whom Bnei-Yisrael did not destroy—these Solomon conscripted for forced labor, as it is to this day.
As for the Jebusites, the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the children of Judah could not drive them out. So the Jebusites continue to live among the children of Judah in Jerusalem to this day.
Also the house of Joseph marched against Bethel, and Adonai was with them.
Manasseh, however, did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages.
