Now Absalom had set Amasa over the army instead of Joab. (Now Amasa was son of a man whose name was Ithra the Israelite, who had gone to Abigal daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah Joab’s mother.)


Then the king said to Amasa, “Summon to me the men of Judah within three days and be here yourself.”


You free me from strifes of my people. You kept me as head of the nations— people I did not know are serving me.


May God do so to Abner and even more if, as Adonai has sworn to David, I don’t accomplish this for him—


Then all the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron and spoke saying, “Here we are, your own flesh and blood.


Now the whole group of those who believed was one in heart and mind. No one would say anything he owned was his own, but they had everything in common.


Then all Bnei-Yisrael went out and was assembled as one man, from Dan to Beersheba with the land of Gilead, before Adonai at Mizpah.
